Grants Available

Under the Guardian Angel program, we offer several grant opportunities to animal rescue charities. To qualify for a grant, an organization must be a registered charity and an Animal Welfare Advisory Network of BC member in good standing.


Animal Transport Grants

Application Deadline: Open and ongoing; applicants can apply on an as needed basis.

Purpose:
The purpose of the animal transport grants is to provide funding to assist in the transportation costs associated with moving animals across the province to increase their likelihood of adoption, to assist in their rehabilitation and/or to get them medical care.

Qualification Criteria:
Must be a registered charity based in BC. For those that provide rescue and rehabilitation services, must operate with established adoption policies consistent with the following protocol:

  • Spay and neuter animals before adoption
  • Get animals vet-checked and provide adopter with vet records
  • Conduct at least a two-week behavior assessment period before placing animal for adoption
  • Require a reasonable adoption fee ($50 to $400 depending on type of animal and age)
  • Does not adopt out an animal until it’s in the best health possible and provides full disclosure when adopting out animals with health and/or behaviour issues
  • Require potential adopters to submit an adoption application, reference check, and whenever possible, participate in a home visit/check
  • Require adopters to sign a contract that states organization will take the animal back for any reason, at any time
  • Provide resources/recommendations for training and/or vet care
  • Have not received Animal Transport funding within the past 6 months
  • Animal is in the legal care of applicant organization
  • Request is for 50% of the overall costs up to a maximum of $1,000

Funding Process:
Funds are provided on an as-needed and as-available basis. Applications are reviewed by the Guardian Angel Grants Committee and funding decisions will be made within seven days.

Compassion Fatigue Grant Funding

Purpose:
The purpose of the compassion fatigue grant funding is to provide funding to qualified rescue organizations to provide therapeutic support to address the fatigue and trauma that is experienced as a result of animal welfare and rescue work.

Qualification Criteria:
Must be a registered charity based in BC and involved in rescue and/or welfare initiatives serve to support animals located in BC. For those that provide rescue and rehabilitation services, must operate with established adoption policies consistent with the following protocol:

  • Spay and neuter animals before adoption
  • Get animals vet-checked and provide adopter with vet records
  • Conduct at least a two-week behavior assessment period before placing animal for adoption
  • Require a reasonable adoption fee ($50 to $400 depending on type of animal and age)
  • Does not adopt out an animal until it’s in the best health possible and provides full disclosure when adopting out animals with health and/or behaviour issues
  • Require potential adopters to submit an adoption application, reference check, and whenever possible, participate in a home visit/check
  • Require adopters to sign a contract that states organization will take the animal back for any reason, at any time

Support Available: Individual Counselling and Group Workshops

Funding Process:
Funds are provided on an as-needed and as-available basis. Applications are reviewed by Paws for Hope Animal Foundation’s Board of Directors and funding decisions will be made within seven days. Approved funds will be distributed upon confirmation workshop(s) has been scheduled or individual counselling has begun.

Please note: Individual counselling grants will not be promoted publically to Paws for Hope’s supporters.


Organization Development Grants

Application Deadline: Open and ongoing; applicants can apply on an as needed basis

Purpose:
The purpose of these grants is to assist in the development, improvement, and/or enhancement of an animal group’s organizational operations.

Eligible Expenses:
Technology improvements (e.g. Web site upgrades, database development); Marketing and promotions (e.g. brochure design, marketing guidance); Operational/administration improvements (e.g. updating/revising application and screening processes); Volunteer/Board training; Material purchases to enhance animal care (e.g. bedding, housing, fencing).

Must be a registered charity based in BC and involved in rescue and/or welfare initiatives serve to support animals located in BC. For those that provide rescue and rehabilitation services, must operate with established adoption policies consistent with the following protocol:

Application Process:
Applicants submit application and a copy of the current Board of Directors and adoption policies no later than the deadline noted above. A maximum of ten grants up to $1,000 each will be awarded. Request cannot exceed 75% of total product/service/item costs. Applications will then be reviewed by the Paws for Hope Animal Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Veterinary Care Grants

Application Deadline: Open and ongoing; applicants apply on an as-needed basis

Purpose:
The purpose of these grants is to provide funding for veterinary procedures for animals in the care of qualified, volunteer-run rescue organizations in B.C.

Qualification Criteria:
Must be a registered charity based in BC involved in rescue and/or welfare initiatives serve to support animals located in BC. For those that provide rescue and rehabilitation services, must operate with established adoption policies consistent with the following protocol:

  • Spay and neuter animals before adoption
  • Get animals vet-checked and provide adopter with vet records
  • Conduct at least a two-week behavior assessment period before placing animal for adoption
  • Require a reasonable adoption fee ($50 to $400 depending on type of animal and age)
  • Does not adopt out an animal until it’s in the best health possible and provides full disclosure when adopting out animals with health and/or behaviour issues
  • Require potential adopters to submit an adoption application, reference check, and whenever possible, participate in a home visit/check
  • Require adopters to sign a contract that states organization will take the animal back for any reason, at any time
  • Provide resources/recommendations for training and/or vet care
  • Have not received Guardian Angel funding within the past six months
  • nimal has a good prognosis for recovery and a plan for follow-up factored into the overall costs, a written or verbal declaration of this from the case DVM
  • Animal is in the legal care of applicant organization
  • Request is for 50% of the overall bill or $1,000

Funding Process:
Funds are provided on an as-needed and as-available basis. Applications are reviewed and decisions made within three days of submission.
